Ranking the greatest footballers of all time is a difficult task with numerous things to consider. Obviously, goals are the most significant component of the game. However, there are additional metrics, like as influence and competition throughout eras, that cannot be quantified.

Football fans and experts frequently disagree on who the greatest football player of all time is. There have been many outstanding athletes throughout the history of the "beautiful game," each with their own special talents, accomplishments, and contributions to the game. While it's difficult to rank the greatest football players of all time with absolute certainty, I can certainly name a few of the most recognizable names that have made an enduring impression on the sport.

  1. Pele

Pelé, a Brazilian hero known as the "King of Football," won the 1958, 1962, and 1970 FIFA World Cups. One of the greatest players in history due to his amazing dribbling, finishing, and ability to score from wherever on the field.

2. Diego Maradona

Maradona's name is synonymous with the "Hand of God" and the "Goal of the Century" in the 1986 World Cup. His dribbling skills, vision, and creativity set him apart as an Argentine icon who could single-handedly change the course of a game.

3. Lionel Messi

Messi, arguably the best player of his time, played for Barcelona before transferring to Paris Saint-Germain where he broke numerous records and won numerous Ballon d'Or honors. He is now considered a modern legend. He has dribbling, vision, and goal-scoring.

After making his debut with Barcelona in 2004, the tiny magician enjoyed 17 illustrious years there, with 672 goals and 305 assists in 778 matches. The Argentine is without a doubt the greatest player to ever play for Barcelona and La Liga. He is also the division's and Spanish club's all-time leading scorer.

In actuality, according to Transfermarkt, Lionel Messi scored 73 goals and contributed 48 assists in 61 games during the 2011–12 season. It is perhaps the best individual football season in history.

Messi has received every honor imaginable throughout his club career, including seven Ballon d'Or victories, the 2009 FIFA World Player of the Year award, eight Pichichi trophies, two UEFA Men's Player of the Year crowns, seven La Liga Player of the Year, and five European Golden Boots.

With 80 goals in 158 games, Messi holds the record for most goals scored in Argentina history. In addition, he guided them to Olympic gold in Beijing in 2008, Champion Copa America 2021, and World Cup 2022 Champion in Qatar. The question is who going to be next Messi? We may never see anyone like him again.

4. Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo, like Messi, has been a dominant force in football for over a decade. Known for his athleticism, aerial ability, and goal-scoring prowess, he has excelled at clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Al-Nasir

At the age of 18, Ronaldo made his Manchester United debut in 2003, and he has consistently delivered at the pinnacle of his game ever since. In that time, he has nearly broken every goal-scoring record and captured every individual honor at his disposal.

The Portuguese superstar is the greatest player in Champions League history, the toughest and most important competition in European club football. He has 141 goals, which puts him in first place among all players, and the most assists (42) in the competition. And if that weren't enough, Ronaldo has a record five championships to his credit, including an incredible hat-trick of victories between 2016 and 2018.

He has won three FIFA World Player of the Year honors, three UEFA Player of the Year awards, and five Ballon d'Or trophies. Three Pichichi awards have also been won by the forward. Prior to Mohamed Salah breaking it, he also held the Premier League record for most goals scored in a season.

5. Johann Cruyff

The Dutch maestro played a crucial role in FC Barcelona's evolution and was a "Total Football" pioneer. His foresight and ability to create plays paved the way for contemporary football strategies.

6. Franz Beckenbauer

The dynamic and graceful defender Beckenbauer was renowned for his poise when handling the ball. He made an enduring impression on German football by winning the World Cup as both a player and manager.

7. Alfredo Di Stéfano

Di Stéfano was a pivotal player for Real Madrid during their golden era in the 1950s. He was a complete attacker with amazing versatility. He was essential to the club's early triumphs in Europe.

8. Zinedine Zidane

Zidane has unparalleled grace and ball handling ability. Football history will never forget his legendary World Cup Final 1998 performance, in which he scored twice with headers.

9. George Best

The Northern Irish winger was well-known for his skill and finesse in dribbling. Best is regarded as one of the finest British players to have ever lived. He played for Manchester United in the 1960s.

10. Ronaldo Nazário

Ronaldo became a phenomenon in the 1990s and early 2000s thanks to his lightning-quick pace and precise finishing. He is renowned for his great goal-scoring performances for clubs like Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid.

One of the biggest 'what ifs' in football is Ronaldo Nazario's career. The Brazilian striker may have been the unquestioned best player of all time if it weren't for knee problems and hypothyroidism.

Ronaldo has numerous awards on his resume. He has twice won the FIFA World Cup with Brazil. He has also won the Copa America twice, La Liga twice, the Copa del Rey once, and the UEFA Cup once. The UEFA Champions League, though, is noticeably missing from his glistening prize collection.

11. Paolo Maldini

Maldini was the epitome of a great defender. The Italian is recognized as one of the finest defenders in history and played his whole career for AC Milan.

12. Lev Yashin

The first goalkeeper on this list, Lev Yashin was a trailblazer in the field. He acquired the moniker "The Black Spider" thanks to his superb reflexes and shot-stopping skills.

13. Eusébio

The Portuguese striker was a prolific goal scorer, both for Benfica and his country. In the 1966 World Cup, he took home the Golden Boot.

14. Ferenc Puskás

For both Hungary and Real Madrid, the forward from Hungary was a prolific goal scorer. His records for scoring goals continue to be admired.

15. Michel Platini

Platini, a master of the midfield, played a key role for Juventus and the French national team. His mastery of set pieces and imaginative play were outstanding.
